LOk Adalats settle 340 cases

Chandigarh, Apr 30 (UNI) For settling maximum cases through the medium of Lok Adalats at pre-litigative stage as well as pending in the Courts, Lok Adalats were held at Jhajjar, Rewari, Bhiwani, Siwani and Loharu.

In these Lok Adalats 340 out of 828 cases were settled. Out of these 35 cases pertained to death/injury arising out of vehicular accidents.

These were settled with a total copmpensation of Rs 65,35,500 given to the victims.

At the same time 305 cases pertaining to other categories like Civil, Petty Criminal, Bank Loan cases at pre-litigative stage as well as pending were also settled.

The Lok Adalats would also be held at Narnaul, Kaithal, Jagadhri and Mohindergarh on May six.

Man burns woman to death on refusal to pay dowry

Patna, Apr 30 (UNI) A fast track court of Patna awarded life imprisonment to a person in a murder case. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 7,000 against the convict yesterday. Judge Dilip Kumar Jha found Ishwar Kant Rai guilty of murdering a girl with whom he was supposed to marry. According to the charges, the victim, Priya Rani was burnt to death by the convict, when the demand for dowry of Rs one lakh.....

Child marriages prevented in MP

Shivpuri, MP, Apr 30 (UNI) Twenty minor couples were today prevented from entering into wedlock in this district's Narayanpur village, on the auspicious occasion of 'Akshay Tritiya', under a special anti-child marriage campaign and two persons arrested. ''A tip-off was received about such marriages. The accused were identified as Mohan Kanghar and Badri Kanghar whose daughters, aged 14 and 16, were also among the would-be brides,'' said Sub-Divisional Magistrate Aditya Singh Tomar. Relatives murder six of family

Lucknow, Apr 30 (UNI) In a gruesome incident, six members of a family were murdered by relatives in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. Naxals treated abductees inhumanely

Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, Apr 30 (UNI) Naxalites treated abducted villagers inhumanely and forced them to starve and drink urine on asking for water. The 35 villagers, who were freed by the ultras yesterday, said the naxals didn't give them enough food and forced them to walk for several kilometres. Beriganga and Sodibhama said the extremists used to blindfold them during daytime so that they could not know about the place. The ultras had abducted 50 villagers on.....

Three persons muder car driver

Vijayawada, Apr 30 (UNI) In less than a week's time after a kerosene dealer was murdered by an eight-member gang, three persons brutally murdered a car driver at Mallikarjunapet here last night. Police said today the deceased L Durga Rao (30) was attacked with a sword and they found 15 knife injuries on his body. Police attributed old political rivalry as the reason behind the murder. So far no arrests have been made and investigation was underway,.....
