Jawans 'attack' farmer in Birbhum district

Santiniketan, Apr 30 (UNI) Para-military force jawans today allegedly attacked a farmer in Hatia village under Labhpur police station area in Birbhum district.

Ananda Mondol was returning home from his farmland when the para-military forces, travelling in a vehicle, asked him to move away.

Mr Mondol took some time to vacate the narrow village road. At this the jawans came down from their vehicle and beat him with a stick.

Birbhum District Magistrate Falil Ahmed said here that they would investigate into the matter.

Para-military forces are in Birbuhm due to the assembly elections in the district.

Birbhum, Murshidabad and Bardhaman will go to the polls on May 3 in the fourth phase of the West Bengal Assembly polls.

Agartala police seize sophisticated arms

Agartala, Apr 30 (UNI) Agartala police recovered four sophisticated arms from an auto rickshaw in Dhaleswar area of this capital city last night and arrested one person. Acting on a tip-off, the East Agartala police raided the vehicle and recovered the arms. They arrested one Chandan Das hailing from Teliamura in Tripura's west district. The recovered arms were an AK series rifle, one SLR rifle, a pipegun and a country-made gun. Police suspect the arms.....

LOk Adalats settle 340 cases

Chandigarh, Apr 30 (UNI) For settling maximum cases through the medium of Lok Adalats at pre-litigative stage as well as pending in the Courts, Lok Adalats were held at Jhajjar, Rewari, Bhiwani, Siwani and Loharu. In these Lok Adalats 340 out of 828 cases were settled. Out of these 35 cases pertained to death/injury arising out of vehicular accidents. These were settled with a total copmpensation of Rs 65,35,500 given to the victims. At the same.....

Man burns woman to death on refusal to pay dowry

Patna, Apr 30 (UNI) A fast track court of Patna awarded life imprisonment to a person in a murder case. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 7,000 against the convict yesterday. Judge Dilip Kumar Jha found Ishwar Kant Rai guilty of murdering a girl with whom he was supposed to marry. Child marriages prevented in MP

Shivpuri, MP, Apr 30 (UNI) Twenty minor couples were today prevented from entering into wedlock in this district's Narayanpur village, on the auspicious occasion of 'Akshay Tritiya', under a special anti-child marriage campaign and two persons arrested.
