Chennai, Apr 30 (UNI) People thronged jewellary shops in Tamil Nadu especially in Chennai city, to buy gold on the occasion of "Akshaya Thrithiya" today.
Though the price of gold has hit an all time high, there was brisk sale of gold and silver in the city. According to jewellery traders in the city, the gold price has touched an all-time high of around Rs 930 a gram, Rs 500 more than last year's price.
City police had made elaborate arrangements for security in various parts of the city, especially in the places where a large number of jewellery shops were located. Six watch towers were also erected at vantage points in T.Nagar, known for jewellery shops,to monitor the movement of people.
