Fresh summons to IPS officer by Women's Commission

Patna, Apr 30 (UNI) The Bihar State Women's Commission today issued fresh summons against IPS officer Amitabh Kumar Das, facing charges of sexually exploiting the daughter of a retired DIG, as he failed to appear before the Commission.

Commission president Manju Prakash told mediapersons today that fresh summons had been issued against the police official, directing him to appear before the Women panel on May 15 after he failed to turn up on Saturday.

Earlier Shabnam Sinha, daughter of the retired DIG, had lodged a complaint with the Women's Commission that she was sexually exploited for eight years by Mr Das after he promised to marry her.

The Commission had issued notice to Mr Das directing him to appear before it yesterday but he failed. Ms Sinha had complied. She had been asked to again appear before the Commission on May 15.

Ms Prakash said three summons would be issued against Mr Das to enable him to put forward his reply in the light of allegations levelled against him by Ms Sinha.

If he does not appear before the Commission even then, the case would be recommended to the state government urging strong action against the senior police officer, the Commission president said.

Meanwhile, recording of statements of the witnesses in this connection had been initiated, Ms Prakash added.
