Defence Ministry praises Bihar government on SAP : Nitish

Patna, Apr 30 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said that Defence Ministry had appreciated the state government's initiative of raising the Special Auxiliary Police(SAP) by recruiting retired army personnel.

Addressing a meeting of retired army personnel here, Mr Kumar said the Defence Ministry has advised other states to utilise services of retired army jawans based on the Bihar government model.

He said that retired army jawans were of very young age and they could handle sophisticated fire arms.

Explainig the reasons behind raising SAP, he said that the state was witnessing shortage of police forces and recruitment process would take time to fill-up the vacancies in the state police.

Mr Kumar hinted at the possibilities of utilising the services of retired army personnel in providing relief to flood victims of the state.

Guwahati, Apr 30 (UNI) The 72-hour oil blockade was called off this afternoon following a deliberation between Oil India Limited (OIL) authorities and agitating students' bodies. Angul district tops in revenue collection in Orissa

Angul, Apr 30 (UNI) Angul district registered an all-time record in terms of revenue collection by collecting a whopping Rs 586.17 crore in the financial year 2005-06. Official sources here said the collection of Rs 16 crore was the highest revenue collection by any district in the state compared to previous year. According to a release, the bulk revenue collection had come from coal royalty which stood at Rs 300 crore followed by Rs 201 crore.....
