Campaign for first phase poll to conclude tomorrow

Pondicherry, Apr 30 (UNI) Electioneering for the first phase of assembly polls in the Union Territory of Pondicherry will come to an end tomorrow.

Mahe, Palloor and Yanam constituencies go to polls in the first phase on May three.

As many as 27026 voters in Mahe and Palloor and 18739 in Yanam will decide the fate of 19 candidates on May three.

Health Minister E Valsaraj and Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister A V Sreedharan are the prominant candidates in the fray for the first phase. While the candidates of Congress, AIADMK, CPI(M) and BJP are in the fray in Mahe and Palloor, as many as seven Indepedents are contesting the election in Yanam constituency.

Adequate para-military and other security personnel were posted for both the regions and all arrangements for polling is being made, election department sources said.

The Electronic Voting Machines(EVM) are being kept ready, the sources added.
