Agartala police seize sophisticated arms

Agartala, Apr 30 (UNI) Agartala police recovered four sophisticated arms from an auto rickshaw in Dhaleswar area of this capital city last night and arrested one person.

Acting on a tip-off, the East Agartala police raided the vehicle and recovered the arms. They arrested one Chandan Das hailing from Teliamura in Tripura's west district.

The recovered arms were an AK series rifle, one SLR rifle, a pipegun and a country-made gun. Police suspect the arms were meant for supply to anti-socials.

They are ascertaining whether Das was involved in supplying arms to any underground forces and whether he had any accomplices.

On interrogation, Das said a man had handed him the weapons and he boarded the auto from Chandrapur area.

Similar arms were recovered 11 months ago from a house in Anandanagar near here.

Further investigation was on.

Child marriages prevented in MP

Shivpuri, MP, Apr 30 (UNI) Twenty minor couples were today prevented from entering into wedlock in this district's Narayanpur village, on the auspicious occasion of 'Akshay Tritiya', under a special anti-child marriage campaign and two persons arrested. ''A tip-off was received about such marriages. The accused were identified as Mohan Kanghar and Badri Kanghar whose daughters, aged 14 and 16, were also among the would-be brides,'' said Sub-Divisional Magistrate Aditya Singh Tomar. Relatives murder six of family

Lucknow, Apr 30 (UNI) In a gruesome incident, six members of a family were murdered by relatives in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. Police Superintendent Prakash D said three brothers of Barmeshwar Prasad Verma's elder daughter-in-law Sunita were behind the crime, which occurred late last night, as they were annoyed with his family for not allowing their sister to stay with her husband. Naxals treated abductees inhumanely

Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, Apr 30 (UNI) Naxalites treated abducted villagers inhumanely and forced them to starve and drink urine on asking for water. The 35 villagers, who were freed by the ultras yesterday, said the naxals didn't give them enough food and forced them to walk for several kilometres. Beriganga and Sodibhama said the extremists used to blindfold them during daytime so that they could not know about the place. The ultras had abducted 50 villagers on.....
