Rotary India Award conferred upon Bhavnagar Vradhashram Trust

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) The Rotary India Award, 2005 for Caring for the Aged was today conferred upon the Gujarat-based Bhavnagar Vradhashram Trust.

The Award, which carries a cash component of Rs two lakh, was presented by Uttaranchal Governor Sudarshan Agarwal to Managing Trustee of the Trust Harshadbhai Seth.

The jury for finalising the award comprised former Chief Justice of India R C Lahoti, former bureaucrat Binoo Sen, Additional Secretary in the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry Sundeep Khanna and Sanskriti Foundation President O P Jain.

Mother, son run over by train

Purulia (West Bengal), Apr 29 (UNI) A woman and her son were run over by Kharagpur bound Hatia-Kharagpur passenger train at an unmanned level crossing near Jhalda in Purulia district. The incident occurred about 50 kms from Purulia town, South Eastern Railways station manager in Purulia S Majumdar said yesterday. Chouhan to perform Kanyadan, Vigil to check child marriages in MP

Bhopal, Apr 29 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will launch his pet project ''Deendayal Antyodaya Mission'' by performing ''Kanyadan'' of 251 poor tribal girls in Mandla district tomorrow. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh would join Mr Chouhan in the 'Kanyadan'' at the mass marriage organised at Sijhoura village. Under the programme, the government would provide Rs 5,000 each for the marriage ceremony and another Rs 1,000 for purchasing household goods to each.....
