Prosecution confirms recording of Mahajan's wife statement

Mumbai, Apr 29 (UNI) The prosecution today confirmed it had recorded grievously wounded BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's wife Rekha's statement.

During main accused Pravin's remand proceedings in a local court, special Public Prosecutor Shrikant Bhatt, however, did not disclose the contents of the statement nor defence lawyer A N Rajulkar asked for it.

Additional Metropolitan Magistrate R T Badge granted prosecutor's request and extended the police remand of Pravin, accused of shooting his elder brother Pramod here on April 22, till May 2.

The accused was arrested on April 22.

Rekha's statement was recorded in Hinduja hospital here on Thursday. Police stated she had seen Pravin fire the third bullet at her husband.

Mr Bhatt said police have also recorded the statement of Mahesh Wankhade, the domestic help at Mahajans' Worli home here, adding he is one of eyewitnesses in the case registered under section 307 of Indian Penal Code.

He said statements of Mr Gopinath Munde, brother-in-law of Mr Mahajan and a former state Home Minister, and his wife Pradnya had also been recorded by the police. The couple were the first to rush to the scene of crime inside Mahajans' 15th floor apartment in Poorna building at Worli. They live on 13th floor of the same building.

Besides, the police have also recorded the statement of a tea vendor who had seen Pravin enter and leave the building on the day of crime.

Police had earlier stated that Rekha and Mahesh were in the apartment when the crime occured.

The prosecution said police have also recorded the statement of Sarangi, wife of the accused who said they had good relations with the Mahajans.

Court remands Nischols to police custody till May six
