PM aware of TATA DTH issue against Maran: Vaiko

Coimbatore, Apr 29 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko today claimed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was aware about "the truth" about the TATA DTH issue and some changes would be effected in the Union Ministry after the election.

Addressing public meetings at Vadavalli Thondamuthur, Alandhurai and Perur Chettipalayam in support of M Kannappan, the MDMK candidate from Thondamuthur constituency, he said when he alleged that the Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran had ''threatened'' TATAs on the DTH issue, instead of replying to the charges, Mr Maran attacked him in indecent language.

He said the TATA DTH issue would be debated all over the country soon.

Listing out the Jayalalitha led AIADMK government's achievements in the last five years, Mr Vaiko said when the Communist parties urged the then Chief Minister Karunanidhi to waive farmer's loans due to floods during 1999 he refused, quoting the NABARD and Reserve Bank. On the contrary, Ms Jayalalithaa had announced that the loans would be waived even if NABARD, Reserve Bank and the Centre don't cooperate.

He said in the last two years, the MDMK ha conducted farmers conference at Paladam district where the party had passed a resolution to waive the loans. The resolution was sent to the Prime Minister, but neither the DMK MP's nor Mr Karunanidhi had done anything for the farmers eventhough they had a clout with the Centre.

He said added that fearing defeat in the assembly election, Mr Karunanidhi was instiigating communal clashes between Thevars and Dalits in the southern parts of Tamil Nadu.
