NBA files rejoinder in Supreme Court

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) seeking stay against the ongoing construction to raise the height of the Sardar Sarovar Dam project today filed a rejoinder in the Supreme Court.

The NBA has strongly refuted the claim of the Madhya Pradesh government that the oustees have alredy been rehabilitated.

The petitioner have also contended that no rehabilitation has taken at all and 16,000 additional families have already come in the submergence zone and the contruction of the dam cannot be permitted to go on at the cost of tribals and farmers who are the wost affected. The matter will come for hearing in the Supreme Court on Monday.

Four faction zones to be set up in Rayalaseema districts

Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, April 29(UNI)Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Mr Swaranjeet Sen today said four monitoring zones would be set up in the four districts of the faction-ridden Rayalaseema region. Talking to newsmen after reviewing the situation in the region with the SPs of the four districts, Sen said efficient officers would be posted at sensitive areas. He said the responsibility of picking up such officers would be completely left to the SPs.....

Deranged man kills 3; police guns him down

Bangalore, Apr 29 (UNI) Police shot dead a mentally retarded man after he ran amok and hacked to death three people near Sirwar village in Raichur district of Karnataka today. Police said the man hacked to death three villagers with a sickle around 1130 hrs following which the villagers lodged a complaint with the police. DVAC arrests two Madras varsity employees

Chennai, Apr 29 (UNI) The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has arrested two employees of Madras University in connection with the examination answer paper racket at the varsity recently. Chandrababu, an office assistant at the University and Ansar Ali, a commerce professor in a private college at Melvisharam, who also runs a tutorial college in the city, were later remanded to judicial custody, DVAC sources said.
