Mulayam announces fixed electric charge for powerloom units

Lucknow, Apr 29 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today announced a fixed electric charge for powerloom units across the state.

Addressing a State Weaver Congress at the Ganna Kisan Sansthan here, Mr Yadav announced that the weavers owning units with powerloom of 1/2 Horse Power capacity will be monthly charged Rs 65 towards electricity on the lines of farmers who have been provided similar benefit.

The government order (GO) in this regard will be notified soon, he added.

An estimated 1.5 million weavers employed in 1,50,000 powerloom units will be benefitted by the announcement.

Mr Yadav also said the constitution of a high-level committee to look into the grievances of the weavers was on cards.

The CM further authorised State Health and Family Welfare Minister Ahmad Hassan to look into all aspects covering the grievances of the weavers.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Hassan said that the high-level committee to be formed soon will address the grievances of weavers, especially those pertaining to power supply.

The minister, while lauding the efforts of the CM towards eliminating the plight of weavers said the weavers had asked for a monthly electric charge of a maximum of Rs 100 per month, but Mr Yadav went a step further by announcing a rent which is Rs 35 lower than the demand.
