Mother, son run over by train

Purulia (West Bengal), Apr 29 (UNI) A woman and her son were run over by Kharagpur bound Hatia-Kharagpur passenger train at an unmanned level crossing near Jhalda in Purulia district.

The incident occurred about 50 kms from Purulia town, South Eastern Railways station manager in Purulia S Majumdar said yesterday.

Another boy of the same family was also seriously injured and admitted to Purulia Sadar Hospital, police said.

Cases registered against NBA activists

Badwani (MP), Apr 29 (UNI) Police have registered cases against 20 people, including Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) activists, for obstructing official work when a government team visited villages affected by the Sardar Sarovar Project yesterday. Two women succumbed to injuries

Jalandhar, Apr 29 (UNI) Two women passengers, who were injured seriously in a fire on board the Punjab Roadway bus at the city bus stand here yesterday, died in Ludhiana today even as 13 other injured were being treated at hospitals. A report from Ludhiana quoting hospital sources said that Mrs Bhagwanti(68) and Mrs Sukhwinder Rani(40) succumbed to their injuries at the CMC Hospital, Ludhiana today. Mercury soars to 44.8 degrees celsius at Hissar

Chandigarh, Apr 29 (UNI) The mercury soared to 44.8 degrees celsius at Hissar as heat wave persisted in Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh Union Territory today. The temperature hovered six degrees above normal at Hissar, the hottest place in Haryana, although the town experienced cloudy weather in the afternoon. The temperature had touched 45 degrees celsius yesterday. Karnal with 38.6 degrees and Ambala with 39.8 degrees recorded a slight fall in the temperatures but the mercury stayed.....
