Maoists attack police station, bank in Jandaha

Patna, Apr 29 (UNI) Around hundred activists of proscribed CPI (Maoists) attacked a bank and police station in Jandaha area under Vaishali district late last night, police said today.

DIG (Tirhut range) Gupteshwar Pandey said a large number of Maoists attacked a bank and police station in Jandaha and started firing indiscriminately.

''Maoists intended to loot cash from the local branch of the Canara Bank and firearms from the Jandaha police station but they did not succeed due to strong retaliation by police,'' Mr Pandey said.

A security guard of the bank sustained injuries in the incident.

A massive manhunt has been launched to nab the extremists, he added.

Monica Bedi files bail application in the Apex Court

Fifteen tribals killed in inhospitable terrain of Chattisgarh

Jagdalpur, Bastar, Apr 29 (UNI) At least fifteen people were killed while the fate of 35 others, who were among 50 people taken hostage by CPI(M) Naxalites on Tuesday in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, was still not known. The bodies of 13 tribals in the 18-35 year age group were found lying this morning on the roadside and nearby areas at the remote Manikonta village on Sukma-Konta road, police said. Jogi demands repeal of Public Security Act

Raipur, Apr 29 (UNI) Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi today demanded repeal of the newly enacted Special Public Security Act, saying it was a draconian law. ''This legislation has every potential to be misused,'' the Congress leader told reporters here. Replying to a question, Mr Jogi admitted the opposition Congress did not protest against the legislation as was required against any such draconian law.
