Js. Krishna Iyer, Cardinal Vithayathil among early voters

Kochi, Apr 29 (UNI) Kerala Industries Minister V K Ibrahim Kunju, Justice V R Krishna Iyer and Major Archbishop Cardinal Varki Vithayathil were among those who made it to the polling booths early in Ernakulam district today.

Voting for the second phase of the Assembly elections in 14 constituencies of the district began on a slow note this morning but picked up pace as the day progressed.

There were no reports of any untoward incidents from anywhere in the district.

While Mr Kunju voted in the tiny coastal constituency of Mattanchery, from where he is seeking re-election, Cardinal Varki Vithayathil and Justice Krishna Iyer voted at their respective polling stations in Ernakulam constituency.

Repoll in two booths on May 2

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 30 (UNI) The Election Commission has ordered repoll at booth No. 144 in Nadapuram of Kozhikode district and booth No. 109 in Perinthalmanna of Malappuram district on May two. Polling had been suspended at booth No. 144 in Nadapuram following complaints that a sticker had been fixed on the symbol of a candidate on the electronic voting machine(EVM) there. Repolling was ordered in booth No. 109 of Perinthalmanna because of a technical snag.....

Thalassery witnesses tough fight

Kannur (Kerala), Apr 30 (UNI) The Thalassery Assembly constituency, one of the key and prestigious segment in Kannur district, is witnessing a tough fight in the third and last phase of Assembly elections in Kerala slated for May three. The CPI(M) has fielded its Central Committee member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to retain the seat for the Left Democratic Front. Kannur (Kerala), Apr 30 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly V S Achuthanandan today said that the false propaganda of UDF leaders that the LDF was opposed to development had been exposed in the first and second phase of the Kerala Assembly elections held on April 22 and 29. Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 29 (UNI) An estimated 69 to 70 per cent of the 10.68 million electorate exercised their franchise today in the second phase of Assembly elections in Kerala covering 66 constituencies spread over six central and northern districts of the state. Preliminary reports received at the Election Commission office here said Malappuram district registered the highest 70.71 per cent, followed by Ernakulam with 69.79, Wayanad 69.57, Palakkad 69.45, Thrissur 68, and Kozhikode 66.25.....
