Jogi demands repeal of Public Security Act

Raipur, Apr 29 (UNI) Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi today demanded repeal of the newly enacted Special Public Security Act, saying it was a draconian law.

''This legislation has every potential to be misused,'' the Congress leader told reporters here.

Replying to a question, Mr Jogi admitted the opposition Congress did not protest against the legislation as was required against any such draconian law. He said the people of Chhattisgarh would raise their voice against the new law.

The BJP government has enacted Special Public Security Act to contain unlawful activities, including Naxalism which has spread its roots in 10 out of 16 districts in the state. The state government recently appointed former Punjab DGP K P S Gill as its Security Adviser to stamp out the naxal menace.

Court issues summons to Advani on defamation case by Abhishek Verm

Gurgaon, Apr 29 (UNI) A city court today issued summons to former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on a defamation case filed by NRI businessman Abhishek Verma for allegedly calling him a 'middleman' in the multi-crore Scorpene submarine deal. Judicial Magistrate Raj Rani Gupta issued summons seeking Mr Advani's presence on July 17. Fifteen tribale Killed 35 hostages releas in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, Bastar, Apr 29 (UNI) Police today recovered bodies of 13 hostages, taking to 15 the number of people killed by CPI(M) naxalites, and later released 35 other villagers abducted on April 25 at Manikonta village in Dantewada district. The bodies of 13 youth, in 18-35 year age group, were found lying this morning on the roadside on Sukma-Konta road nearby the village. Police said naxals released the rest hostages in afternoon. Youth Cong leader shot in Haryana

Sirsa, Apr 29 (UNI) Dabwali Youth Congress President Chander Singh Brar was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Sirsa district of Haryana early this morning. Mr Brar was taken away by a group of unidentified persons to show him some property at an undisclosed destination. His body was later found between Gauriwala and Ganga villages.
