Eight soldiers killed in Nepal explosion

Kathmandu, Apr 29 (UNI) Eight soliders were killed and over half a dozen injured in an explosion in western Nepal today, media reports here said.

The soldiers were hit by the explosion while digging a defence trench at Bhairabh Prasad Battalion in Gulmi district in western Nepal, Kantipur radio quoted local security officials.

It is said that the attack has nothing to do with the Maoist rebels but occurred due to the negligence of the army personnel.

After the reinstatement of the House last week by King Gyanendra at the height of popular movement against his rule, the Maoists have declared three months unilateral ceasefire to clear the way for the declaration of Constituent Assmbly election, one of the major demands of the rebels.

People pray for Koirala's good health

Kathmandu, Apr 29 (UNI) People in western Nepal today prayed and performed Shati Homa for the speedy recovery and good health of Prime Minister designate Girija Prasad Koirala. A large number of people gathered at Laxminarayan temple, Dhangadi, Kailali in western Nepal this morning and lit traditional lamps and worshipped for about three hours, praying for the good health of Mr Koirala, local reporters told UNI from Dhangadhi. The priests of the temple read out.....

PMC President to contest from Modaliarpet in May 8 polls

Pondicherry, Apr 30 (UNI) Founder President of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) and former minister P Kannan is contesting from Modaliarpet constituency after a gap of one term in the May eight assembly elections to the Union Territory. After keeping away from the contest in the 2001 elections, Mr Kannan floated PMC and forged an alliance with the AIADMK, in which the party is contesting nine seats. Mr Kannan, who was not defeated so far.....

China to deliver JF-17s to Pakistan next year

Islamabad, Apr 29 (UNI) China will deliver the first small batch of JF-17 (Thunder) aircraft to Pakistan early next year, officials here said today. The serial production of a batch of JF-17s is to commence in China by June-July after a successful testflight of the fourth prototype of the aircraft was conducted in Chengdu yesterday, the officials added. Pakistan Air Force (PAF) will start serial production of the aircraft in the country from June.....
