Day temperature soars in most parts of India

Pune, Apr 29 (UNI) Heat wave conditions prevailed in Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu and at isolated places in Haryana.

Day temperatures were markedly above normal in Jammu and Kashmir appreciably above normal in Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and were above normal in Assam and Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and in some parts of madhya Maharashtra and Kerala. They were below normal in some parts of Orissa and Jharkhand and were below normal in Bihar, east Uttar Pradsh and Gujarat and in remaining parts of Orissa. They were normal over the rest of the country.

Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, north Rajasthan, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and mainly dry weather will prevail over West Bengal and Sikkim, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, south Rajasthan, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana Rayalseema, Karnataka and Lakshadweep.

Very light rain have occured at isolated places in Orissa, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, west Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

Rain or thundershowers have occurred at many places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at few places in east Uttar Pradesh and at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

DG of Forest and Environment express satisfaction

Agartala, Apr 29 (UNI) The Director General (DG) and Additional Director General (ADG) of Forest and Environment have expressed satisfaction over Tripura's progress in afforestation. During a meeting with Chief Minister Manik Sarkar here yesterday, both the Central government officials - Environment and Forest Ministry Special Secretary and DG J C Kala and and ADG G K Prasad expressed their satisfaction. The Chief Minister requested the DG to open a "Special Cell" under the Environment.....

UCO Bank reports 43 per cent decline in net profit

Kolkata, Apr 29 (UNI) UCO Bank today reported 43 per cent drop in net profit of Rs 197 crore for the year ended March 31, 2006, as compared to Rs 346 crore in the corresponding period previous year. The decline in profit was mainly due to increased provisioning for depreciation and amortization expenses in respect of investments (Rs 115 crore) and increased in provisioning towards standard advances (Rs 53 crore) consequent to RBI's guidelines.....
