Court remands Nischols to police custody till May six

Mumbai, Apr 29 (UNI) Veteran actor Navin Nischol and his brother Pravin, who were arrested last night on chargea of harassment and abetment the suicide of the former's wife Geetanjali, were today remanded to police custody till May six by a metropolitan court.

Navin Nischol and his brother were produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate J B Pankhe, who remanded them to police custody.

The actor's wife had committed suicide at her Mahim residence on April 22.

The two were called for interrogation yesterday morning. After day-long grilling wherein they failed to give satisfactory replies, they were arrested last night at 2200 hrs.

They have been charged under section 306 (abetment to commit suicide) 498-A (harassment to meet any unlawful demand) and 109 (abetment) of IPC.

In her suicide note, Geetanjali had stated that she had taken the extreme step as she was fed up with Naveen's addiction to alcohol which often resulted in quarrels over petty issus.

Centre condemns killing of tribals in Chhattisgarh

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) The Centre today strongly condemned the killing of 15 tribals by naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, saying suchbarbaric acts are against all norms of democratic society. A spokesman of the Ministry of Home Affairs said the Centre had asked the state government to contain such inhumane and senseless act of violence. The administration has also been asked to intensify search and combing operations in areas to apprehend the naxalites.....

Monica Bedi files bail application in the Apex Court

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) Monica Bedi, 'wife' of mafia don Abbu Salem, today filed a bail application in the Supreme Court contending that she had already faced trial in 'fake passport' case in Portugal from where she was extradited to India. She had earlier challenged Madhya Pradesh High Court order dated March 6, 2006 vide which her bail application was dismissed. The starlet is seeking bail in a case pending trial in Bhopal for.....

Fifteen tribals killed in inhospitable terrain of Chattisgarh

Jagdalpur, Bastar, Apr 29 (UNI) At least fifteen people were killed while the fate of 35 others, who were among 50 people taken hostage by CPI(M) Naxalites on Tuesday in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, was still not known. The bodies of 13 tribals in the 18-35 year age group were found lying this morning on the roadside and nearby areas at the remote Manikonta village on Sukma-Konta road, police said.
