Winning start by West in All India Prasar Bharti cricket tourney

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Hosts West Zone began with a thumping win, beating North-East by five wickets on the opening day of the First All-India Prasar Bharti cricket tournament organised by Akashwani Cricket Club, Mumbai, at the Brabourne Stadium here today.

Mahendra Vaity was the star performer for West today as he first captured six wickets for just 8 runs helping his side dismiss North East for just 73 runs after they had batted first and then guided his team to victory with a good knock of 24 in a low scoring game with West overhauling the target losing five wickets in the process.

The tournament was inaugurated by Akashwani director Brajeshwar Singh in the presence of station director Satish Sonkar and radio commentators Suresh Saraiya and Milind Wagle.

Brief Scores: North East 73 (Bilop 26, Mahendra Vaity 6-8, Suresh Benade 2-7) lost to West 74-5 (Mahendra Vaity 24).

Russia opposes Iran gaining nuclear arms know-how

MOSCOW, Apr 24 (Reuters) Moscow is ''categorically opposed'' to Iran gaining the knowledge that would allow it to develop nuclear weapons, three Russian news agencies quoted a Kremlin source as saying today. Russia, which has a veto on the United Nations Security Council, has not supported Washington's efforts to secure international consensus on sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Mitsubushi to enhance market share in India

Chennai, Apr 24 (UNI) Japan-based Mitsubishi, the largest elevator and escalator company, has drawn up ambitious plans to enhance its Indian market share and might set up a manufacturing facility in the country in the near future. NC lodges complaint with EC, alleges booth capturing

Srinagar, Apr 24 (UNI) The main opposition National Conference (NC) today lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resorted to rigging and booth capturing at some places in Pattan and Rafiabad constituencies and demanded repoll in several polling stations.
