Training aircraft crashes in SW Bangladesh; pilot killed

Dhaka, Apr 24 (UNI) A training aircraft of Bangladesh Air Force crashed in southwestern Bangladesh today, killing its pilot.

Director of Inter-service public relations (ISPR) Col Nazrul, said Flight Cadet Wing Under Officer Taniul Islam of Jessore Air Force Academy was killed instantly, when the PT-6 aircraft (Primary Trainer-6) plunged into a field at village Mohorrompur in Jhenaidah district at about 1135 hours local time.

The aircraft was on a training mission, which left the Airforce Academy in Jessore at 1045 hours, Col Nazrul said.

Flight Cadet Taniul Islam joined Bangladesh Air Force as flight cadet on July 20, 2004 and was undergoing training at Bangladesh Air Force Academy.

Chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Vice-Marshall Fakhrul Azam visited the scene of the accident.

''In preliminary investigation, technical fault has been assumed as the cause of the accident,'' Col Nazrul said.

A three-member inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the plane crash.

Five injured in clash between two groups

Hyderabad, Apr 24 (UNI) A clash between two groups in Old City resulted in injuries to five persons and mild tension in Mangalhat area last night. Police said a group of unidentified persons attacked a autorickshaw in which a 20-year-old girl and her brother were going to a hospital. Ganja seized weighing 35 kg in city

Chennai, Apr 24 (UNI) Police seized 35 kgs of ganja from a locked house of a hotel employee in Choolaimedu area in the city today. Police said, on a tip off, a police party broke in to the house and seized the stock. Enquiries revealed that Mrs Karuppayaee (60) of Cumbum and her friend Mrs Vannakili (35) had smuggled the contraband from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh TO sell it in the local market. Land sharks held for selling, damaging graveyard in UP capital

Lucknow, Apr 24 (UNI) Police today arrested two people for selling and damaging a graveyard in the Uttar Pradesh capital. SSP (Lucknow) Ashutosh Pandey said here Narendra Maurya had allegedly sold two bighas of a graveyard in Aashiana area here to Vimlesh Tiwari for Rs 4 crore.
