SC directs respondents to file submission on Bangladesh migrants

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the respondents, the Centre and Asom government, to file their written submissions on a PIL seeking to quash the Home Ministry order passed in February 2006 making the detection and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Asom difficult.

A division bench comprising Justice S B Sinha and Justice P K Balasubramanyan issued the directions on the ground that there are over 20 lakh illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Asom who are a grave security threat to the country and the impugned order was politically motivated to save the vote bank of political parties.

Robbers loot petrol pump of Rs 26.75 lakh

Vadodara, Apr 24 (UNI) In a day-light robbery, armed miscreants looted Rs 26.75 lakh in cash from a Reliance-owned petrol pump on the outskirts of Ankleswar city, about 90 km from here, today. 2 suicides in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Apr 24 (UNI) Two cases of suicides, one by a young married woman, was reported from the district today. In this first incident, a 20-year-old youth Suresh Chavan from Shivaji Peth locality in the city, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house, police said. The youth had recently undergone an eye surgery but his sight had not been fully restored. Police suspect the youth might have committed suicide fearing that.....

Patkar submits list of 1174 SSP affected in Mah to Patil

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) activist Medha Patkar today informed Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil that 1174 Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) affected families in Maharashtra were yet to be rehabilitated.
