Power workers organise demonstration meeting

Patna, Apr 24 (UNI) Power workers associated with Kamani Employees' Union (KEU) today held demonstration in the state capital to press for fulfilment of their charter of demands.

General secretary of the association C D Sinha said besides demand of providing facilities of provident fund, bonus and other benefits, the principal concern of the KEU was to ensure the safety and security of life of workers.

There had been spate of life threatening accidents during the execution of power projects, Sinha said.

The Padyatra, which had started from Muzaffarpur on April 20, today culminated into demonstration meeting in the state capital.

He said a charter of demands had already been submitted to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar demanding his intervention to resolve their problems.

More than 750 construction workers had either been illegally terminated or dismissed, he informed.

IA announces scheme extension

Chennai, Apr 24 (UNI) Encouraged by the overwhelming response to its 'unchecked fares', Indian today announced the extension of the scheme till September 30 for travel in Economy Class on 148 sectors. There would be a marginal reduction in unchecked fares applicable for travel from June 16 to September 30, 2006 compared to fares for the travelling period May one to June 15 (high season), an Indian release here said. MCX Index closed at 2335.34 down by 37.11 points

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) has recorded a turnover of Rs 5,005.09 crore at the close of trading hour today. The index closed at 2335.34 down by 37.11 points (-1.59 per cent). MCX has recorded a turnover of Rs 5,005.09 crore. The total trades registered were 64,316. The MCX Metal Index was down by 95.35 points (-3.61 per cent), and MCX Agri Index was the sole gainer and was up by 10.66 points (0.67.....

Ten SPs transferred in Haryana

Chandigarh, Apr 24 (UNI) In a major police reshuffle in Haryana, the state government today transferred 14 IPS officers, including ten District Superintendents of Police, with immediate effect. Mr Rajbir Singh Deswal, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ambala has been posted as SP, Vigilance. He replaces Mr Ram Singh Bishnoi, an official spokesman said. Mr Bishnoi has been appointed SP Rewari in place of Mr C S Rao, who becomes SP, Rohtak. Mr Subhash Yadav,.....
