Police officer still missing

Imphal, Apr 24 : Sub-inspector Nongthongbam Kumar, who was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified persons 38 days ago was still untraceable.

The police officer had come back home from Tamenglong police station and disappeared after reaching Imphal. However, the car which he had driven was recovered by police.

The Joint Action Committee has resorted to agitation to demand the safe release of Kumar. The JAC said it had called a bandh earlier and formed a human chain yesterday at Thoubal district to demand safe release of Kumar.

Some militant organisations had announced that they were not involved in the kidnapping Meanwhile, people of Bishenpur district protested the encounter between police and militants at highly populated areas.

After the ambush on security personnel on Saturday night at Bishenpur, police had reportedly beaten up people and resorted to random firing.
