Lahor, Apr 24 (UNI) Seeking a pound of flesh from its billionare counterpart, the PCB did a volte-face from its earlier stance of indifference on the BCCI offshore media rights deal, saying it would have a joint marketing agreement with the Indian board for the Indo-Pak matches at the neutral venues.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently awarded to the Zee Network the global media rights of the offshore matches for a whopping 219 million dollar. The five-year contract covers atleast 25 matches, including highly lucrative 15 India-Pakistan ties.
Earlier the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had maintained that it had nothing to do with the BCCI-Zee deal and it would float a separate tender for its marketing rights of the 15 matches between the arch-rivals.
''In future we'll have a joint marketing agreement with the Indians for the games on the neutral venues,'' PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan said yesterday.
On being asked about the conflict of interests due to the Zee-BCCI deal, he said, ''They are playing not only against us over the next five years at neutral venues but also agasint the Aussies and others.'' ''I am talking about our matches. We'll have joint marketing when we play,'' he added.
He also said that the offshore matches would not coincide with the years when a bilateral series between the two nations was due so as not to risk the players.
