Nathan, Inbar, Orest, King make it to singles main draw

Dharwad. Apr 24 (UNI) Thompson Nathan of USA, Amit Inbar of Israel, Tereschuck Orest of Ukraine and Phillip King of USA made it to the singles main draw of the PVG Cup ATP Men's Challenger Dharwad Open Tennis tournament here today.

The main draw matches would commence tomorrow.

In the qualifying rounds, Nathan got past Victor Kulick of Israel 7-5, 6-3, while Amit Inbar ousted Sergei Bubka of Ukraine 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, Orest defeated Patrick Tierro of Phillipines 6-2, 6-2 and King beat Ashutosh Singh of India 6-2, 6-2.

Lee Yung Taik of Korea (ATP Rank 109) had been top seeded in this tournament, while winner of the Chikmagalur leg, Danai Udomchoke of Thailand seeded second. Udomchoke (114) had won the Men's singles title in the ATP Challenger held at Dharwad in October 2003.

Taipei's Lu Yen Hsun (118) was seeded third, while Poland's Lukasz Kubot (138) seeded fourth.

Istomin Denis of Uzbekistan, India's Prakash Amritraj, Rohan Bopanna and Japan's Soeda Go were seeded fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.

Four Indians-- Raju Kaushik, Vishal Uppal, Nandkumar Kiran and Sunil Kumar Sipaeya--have been given wild card entry.

Thailand's Ratiwatana brothers-Sonchat and Sanchai, winners of the men's doubles title at Chikmagalur last week and also the winners of the title at Dharwad in 2003, had been topseeded in the doubles event.

Prakash Amritraj and Rohan Bopanna, who were runners up in 2003, were seeded second. India's Mustafa Ghouse and his Pakistani partner Aslam ul Haq Qureshi were seeded third, while Istomin and Tereshchuk seeded fourth.

Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Association, in collaboration with Yojana Events, was organising this US Dollar 25,000 prize money international tournament sponsored by PVG Exports and Logistics Company, Belgaum. Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti inaugurated the tournament.

Iran president says no need now for US talks

Gujarat Gas Q1 declines to Rs 24.46 crore

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Gujarat Gas Company Ltd has posted a net profit after tax of Rs 24.46 crore for the quarter ended March 31 as compared to Rs 27.32 crore for the quarter ended March 31 last year. Announcing the results to BSE, the company said its total income (net of excise) has increased from Rs 160.06 crore in Q1 FY 2005 to Rs 202.88 crore for Q1 FY 2006. As per the.....
