Lightning kills three, injures 10 in Durgapur

Durgapur, Apr 24 (UNI) Ligtning killed three members of a family and injured ten others seriously as heavy rain and thunderstorms disrupted life in many parts of West Bengal this evening.

Police said three members of a family at Patashpara near Ichapur in this steel town died on the spot when they were struck by ligtning. The victims were identified as Milon Bawri, his brother Bodhon and another relative.

Ten people also of the same village received serious burn injuires when ligntning struck them this evening.

They were admitted to a local government hospital.

Elsewhere in Kolkata thunderstorms that lashed the city with a wind speed about 60 kms per hour uprooted many trees, pulled off light posts and disrupted vehicular traffic.

Many areas were hit by power cut due to disruption and election meeting of both ruling and oppostion parties had to be cancelled.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's scheduled rally in Behala in south Kolkata was suspended due to storm and similarly a joint meeting of Mamata Banerjee and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar was also called off.

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Prabha Rau today chose to downplay the comments of her party spokesman Sanjay Nirupam welcoming the decision of the High Court of striking down the dance bar ban. GGP demands postponing Budhni bypoll

Bhopal, Apr 24 (UNI) The Gondwana Ganatantra Party (GGP) today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) demanding postponing of Budhni assembly bypoll until factual evaluation of the amount spent in campaigning by the BJP and the Congress. In the five-point memorandum, former Union Minister Prahlad Patel and GGP's Khushal Singh Markam alleged that the Congress and the BJP had spent more amount than the prescribed limit.
