Lawyer duo of mother-daughter murder solved, 4 arrested

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) Police today claimed to have arrested four persons from Balasore in Orissa in connection with the March 12 Siddhartha Enclave murder of two High Court women lawyers.

All the four, all between 21 and 27 years of age, including main accused Bhaskar Mahalik (27), were produced before a Judicial Magistrate yesterday after their arrest and are being brought to Delhi, Jt Commissioner (Crime) Ranjit Narayan told mediapersons.

''They will be produced before a Delhi court on April 26,'' he said.

Main accused Bhaskar Mahalik worked in the neighbourhood of the mother-daughter duo, who were murdered on March 11/12 night at their Siddhartha Enclave residence in South Delhi, about one-and-a-half years back and informed his 'associates' about the vulnerable target following which the heinous crime was committed, said the Jt CP.

''Presently he is working at a Chinese restaurant at INA Market.'' The other three -- Bhagwan Mahalik (23), Niranjan Mahalik (24) and Jagbandhu Dass (21) -- also hailed from Orissa and were domestic helps at various places in Delhi, he said.

''More than a kilogram of jewellery, a diamond necklace, gold coins, gold statue of goddess, watches and 73 US dollars were recovered from the possession of the four accused,'' he added.

The case worked out on the basis of 'traditional policing method' was crcked after the questioning of over 300 people, Mr Narayan said.

Shankarcharya case: SC Judge wants to withdraw

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) Mr Justice B.N. Srikrishna, presiding judge of the bench of the Supreme Court today told the petitioner Pontiff Kanchi Jayanendra Saraswati that he wanted to withdraw from the case due to personal reasons. The hearing of Kanchi Shankarcharya's petition seeking change of the public prosecutor in the trial of Shanakraman murder case in which Shankarcharya is the main accused was adjourned till May 1 with directions to place the matter.....

Writs against cancellation of BTC Exam 2001 dismissed

Allahabad, Apr 24 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today dismissed several writ petitions filed against the October 20, 2005 Uttar Pradesh Government Order (GO) cancelling the BTC Examination 2001. The court clarified that candidates, who had taken the 2001 exam, will be permitted to take the BTC re-examination. However, the court observed that passing of the order will not prevent UP from undertaking subsequent BTC Exam 2005 or any other examination in this respect. The order was.....

Hyderabad, Apr 24 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Police Officers' Association today met State Home Minister K Jana Reddy and expressed anguish over news reports, in which the AP High Court, while hearing a case called the police 'licensed goondas'.
