Haryana to clash with up in the National Hockey Championship

Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, Apr 24 (UNI) Haryana will clash with Uttar Pradesh in the finals of the 12th sub-junior National Hockey Championship being held at the DNR College grounds here today.

In the semi finals, Haryana dominated the proceedings against Orissa right from the beginning and registered a facile 2-0 victory in the other match Uttar Pradesh beat hosts Andhra 2-0.

For Haryana, Nikhil Soroha score the first goal in the fourth minute and later Satya Van Singh increased the lead in the 50th minute.

Deepak Yadhav of Uttar Pradesh scored a fine field goal in the 13th minute to put his team in the lead. Abhinav increased the lead in the 55th minute to seal the fate for the hosts.

Fukuoka applies to host 2016 Olympics

TOKYO, Apr 24 (Reuters) The southern Japanese city of Fukuoka formally joined the country's capital Tokyo today in the race to host the 2016 Olympics. Fukuoka mayor Hirotaro Yamasaki presented his city's bid proposal to the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), heralding the start of a two-horse race to become Japan's 2016 candidate. ''We are expecting to see a plan of the highest quality that will be recognised as such by the world,'' JOC president Tsunekasu Takeda.....

CAS finds FIFA out of step with world anti-doping code

BERN, Switzerland, Apr 24 (Reuters) The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has told world soccer's governing body FIFA that its anti-doping regulations do not correspond fully to those of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The court added, however, that FIFA is not legally obliged, under Swiss law, to modify any of its existing rules. FIFA and WADA both made separate applications for an advisory opinion from the court following years of wrangling over the differences.....

Murray battles through in Barcelona

BARCELONA, Apr 24 (Reuters) Andy Murray won his first match in more than six weeks today when he beat Spanish wildcard Marcel Granollers-Pujol 4-6 6-4 6-2 to reach the second round of the Barcelona Open. The 18-year-old Briton, ranked 43rd, trailed the world number 291 by a set and a break but he rallied to win the second set. With Granollers-Pujol struggling with cramp in both legs, Murray eased through the third set to set up.....
