Gunmen kill four policemen in Iraq's Tikrit

TIKRIT, Iraq, Apr 24 (Reuters) Gunmen attacked a police station near Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit today, killing four policemen, police said.

Two gunmen were also killed in the exchange of fire that erupted after the assault, they said.

Insurgents have recently stepped up attacks against US-trained security forces as part of a campaign to undermine the government and derail the political process.

Saddam, who is facing charges on crimes against humanity, was back in a Baghdad court on Monday.
