Frequent revisions of CBSE texts put students in quandary

Dubai, Apr 24 (UNI) Private publishers of school text books and guides in India and their distributors in Qatar seem to be cashing in on the frequent revisions of text books by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The revisions, which are now almost an annual affair, have also led to inordinate delays in the issuance of new text books causing problems for students and teachers, say Indian school sources.

According to sources, there are six Indian schools in Doha following the CBSE curriculum.

Although the new academic year for Indian schools here started early this month, most of the revised textbooks have not yet reached the market.

Several parents have complained that the frequent changes have increased their financial burden.

''The revision of the curricula is a welcome step,'' principal of an Indian school said.

''But the CBSE should ensure that the new text books reach the students in time. The annual revision also raise doubts that the reform is not well planned,''he noted.
