Four domestic servants arrested in Delhi lawyers murder case

Balasore, Apr 24 (UNI) Delhi crime branch police have arrested four people from their villages under Soro police station on charges of killing mother-daughter duo in their house in the posh Siddharth Extension area of South Delhi on March 12.

A team of Delhi Crime branch led by one Additional Commissioner with the cooperation of the Soro police raided Mangalpur, Dahipur, Manitrijania and Dahigada villages late last night and arrested the four former domestic servants working in the apartment in Delhi.

The team also recovered ornaments weighing nearly one kg and 72 US Dollars besides some coins from their possession. They were produced before the local magistrate and taken on a transit remand to Delhi for further interrogation, Soro police sources said.

Police said Ms Swarna Mahajan and her daughter Anuradha, both working as lawyers in the Delhi High Court, were found dead at their house in the Siddharth Extension area of South Delhi on March 12 last.

All the four accused were working as domestic servants in the neighbouring flats of the victims and their intention was to loot the lawyer's house. They have been identified as Niranjan Malik, Bhagwan, Tukku Malik and Bhaskar, police said.

Hostage rescued in Asom

Guwahati, Apr 24 : Police today rescued kidnapped Chief Engineer of Asom PWD Department Suren Das near Pathsala in Barpeta district.Suspected ULFA militants kidnapped him on March 9 from his official quarter.According to police sources, he was found with cerebral malaria and rushed to Guwahati Medical College (GMC) in serious condition.The sources also informed that the engineer's captors had left him behind as he was suffering from high fever. AMU Vice Chancellor welcomes SC ruling

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor Naseem Ahmed today welcomed the Supreme Court ruling maintaining the minority status of the institution in accordance with the 1981 constitutional amendment. Mr Ahmed said the ruling has restored the character of AMU as it was prior to the litigation at the Allahabad High Court. The AMU Students' Union also welcomed the ruling, saying the judiciary was the only institution which could establish true.....
