Doctor sentenced to 5 years rigorous imprisonment in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 24 (UNI) The Special Judge Anti Corruption Kashmir today sentenced a doctor to five years rigorous improsonment and fined him Rs 4.15 lakh for forging his date of birth.

In the event of default of fine, the doctor had to undergo rigorous imprisonment for further period of one year, according to the judgement.

The accused, Dr Ghulam Hassan Mir, then medical officer (Unani) was further sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000, for separate charges under RPC.

A spokesman of the Vigilance Organisation said an FIR was registered against the doctor after it was established that the accused forged his date of birth by 8 years from 1938 to 1946 and had thereby drawn excess pay amounting to Rs 3,55,106 causing loss to the state exchequer.

A case under section 471 RPC was also registered against the doctor. Similarly in one more U/S 420-RPC, the accused has been sentenced to two years and a fine of Rs.5000/-.

In default of payment of fine he will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment of further 15 days.

All these sentences will run concurrently.

IA announces scheme extension

Chennai, Apr 24 (UNI) Encouraged by the overwhelming response to its 'unchecked fares', Indian today announced the extension of the scheme till September 30 for travel in Economy Class on 148 sectors.
