Diplomatic corps step up efforts to bring King parties together

Kathmandu, Apr 24 (UNI) Even as the diplomatic community step up its efforts to bridge the divide between King Gyanendra and the seven-party alliance moves for the revival of Parliament -- a key demand of the parties -- are also increasing.

The political imbroglio in the Himalayan Kingdom appeared to be showing no signs of resolution, with the monarch and the political parties avoiding face to face parleys.

However, Indian Ambassador Shiv Shanker Mukherjee, US envoy James F Moriarty and ambassador from the E U countries, were playing the role of facilitators, meeting both sides regularly.

Highly-Placed sources told UNI that Mr Mukherjee had met the king last night-- the fourth meeting in the last seven days-- while Mr Moriarty met the monarch today.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the King is seeking legal opinion- on the revival of Parliament. Sources said though its term has elapsed, the King can take recourse to Article 127 of the constitution which empowers him to take any measure to resolve a constitutional issue.
