Tiruchirapalli, Apr 24: The Communist Party of India (CPI) today criticised the Centre's stand on the political crisis in Nepal.
Addressing a press meet here, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said 'we stand solidly behind the decision of the seven party alliance and we think the Government of India was hasty and wrong in welcoming the whole move of King Gyanendra. It has try to correct itself because it must learn some lesson from life'.
He said as per Communist Party of Nepal (UML) general secretary, King Gyanendra was trying to go back to the 2005 position. 'He is playing that game even today. He has again clamped a ban on mobile phones and there was greater repression yesterday than was ever see before. So what sort of power is he giving?' he questioned.
Asked about King Gyanendra's move to keep Maoists out from talks, Mr Bardhan shot back, 'Who is he to decide this? The seven party alliance signed a 12 point agreement with Maoists and Maoists have behaved in a most exemplary manner. No violence was resorted to by the agitationists. All those killed have fallen to police bullets.' Meanwhile, India Mr Bardhan said India had entered the period of coalition governments not only at the Centre but also in the states.
Though Tamil Nadu never had coalition rule, ''I have a feeling that we have entered a period of coalition. In most states, nowadays there are coalition governments,' he said, adding, whether it was the Left Front in West Bengal or the LDF in Kerala, coalition governments have been successful.'' ''So, there is nothing wrong in the idea. What shape will it take? Who will be there in it and who will support it from outside and these matters can be decided finally after the elections,'' he said.
Asked if the CPI would participate in the government, he said it had to be decided only after the polls.
