Congress promises spl.status to Pondicherry

Pondicherry, Apr 24 (UNI) The Congress party today promised action to obtain the status of special category state for Pondicherry to improve the administrative system and faster implementation of welfare and developmental schemes.

In the election manifesto released here this evening, the party promised a clean transparent government for the welfare of the people, to provide priority for infrastrucutre development and quality supply of power, development of roads and construction of fly overs to ease traffic congestion.

Steps would be taken to encourage eco friendly industries to imporve economy and employment generation here, it said.

Claiming that Pondicherry has made spectacular strides in all sectors during the last Congress regime, the party assured speedy conduct of Panchayat elections here as per the directives of the High Court.

Modernisation of the Anglo-French textile mills along with the Bharathi and Swadeshi cotton mills, steps to get recognition for scheduled people here and one percent reservation for them, strengthening the cooperative sector,steps for the introduction of additional benifits to physically handicapped were among other promises given by the party in the manifesto.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy released the manifesto and AICC General Secretary V Narayansamy received the first copy in the presence of Mr Hariprasad AICC secretary in charge of Pondicherry and Mr Sudhkar Reddy, AICC secretary and a host of party leaders.
