Car bomb kills 3, wounds 25 in central Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Apr 24 (Reuters) A car bomb targeting an Iraqi police patrol exploded in central Baghdad today, killing at least three people and wounding 25 others, police said.

They said the blast occurred near the Ministry of Health. There were no further details.

The attack, which followed a rocket blast that killed seven people yesterday, comes as Prime Minister-designate Jawad al- Maliki starts the daunting task of forming a national unity government that many see as the best way to avert civil war.

Baramulla, Apr 24 (UNI) About 24 per cent voters today cast their ballots in three Assembly constituencies of Pattan, Rafiabad and Sangrama amid thick security blanket despite militant outfits and separatist groups urging the people to boycott polls. An official spokesman said about 24 per cent polling was recorded till 1100 hrs in these constituecies with no report of any major untoward incident. Long queues could be seen outside the polling stations much before the time......

Situation in Kashmir normal on the day of bypoll

Srinagar, Apr 24 (UNI) For the first time since the eruption of militancy in 1989, situation in the Kashmir valley remained normal on the polling day today. Shops and business establishments are open and traffic was normal on all routes in South, Central and North Kashmir except those falling under the three assembly constituencies of Pattan, Rafiabad and Sangrma in North Kashmir.
