Arrangements complete for third phase polling

Kolkata, Apr 24 (UNI) With all arrangements being complete for the third phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal, 500 companies of central para military force jawans today arrived in Kolkata, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts where polling will be held on April 27.

''The arrangements have been made on the line of those in the first two phases. Each of the 13790 polling booths will be manned by four para military force jawans while 3,000 digital cameras will be used to take photographs of voters without having photo identity cards,'' Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) Debasish Sen told reporters.

He said altogether 12.5 million electorate would exercise their franchise in 77 constituencies to elect representatives from among a total of 485 candidates.

There was a massive deletion from the electoral rolls for the third phase of polling with 2.92 lakh names being dropped out of the list, he said.

While Kolkata accounts for 24,34,221 voters, North 24 Parganas has 5226801 voters and South 24 Parganas electorate.

The number of polling stations is 2596 in Kolkata and 5712 and 5482 respectively in North and South 24 Parganas.

PM sets up Narmada committee; Report in three months
