23 ROBs to come up in Punjab in one year

Chandigarh, Apr 24 : Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh here today reviewed the ongoing road network projects in the state, which included the construction of 23 Railway over bridges (ROBs) and 4,117 kms of road length.

The Chief Minister was ensured by PWD secretary Karan A Singh in his presentaion that this task in both rural and urban areas would be completed in a time frame manner, an official spokesman of the Punjab government here said.

The said projects to be completed in the current financial would be completed at a cost of Rs 3,127 crore.

The construction work of 14 corridors of 758 KM at a cost of Rs 910 crore was being undertaken by PIDB.

Patiala-Pattarn and Balachaur-Dasua would be likely to be completed within a year. The work on the four corridors Kiratpur Sahib-Una, Ferozepur-Fazilka, Moga-Kotakpura and Hoshiarpur-Tanda would be started next month.

He also informed that in the first phase the construction ROBs at Patiala, Dhuri, Tanda, Batala, Beas and Sangrur would begin in July 2006 whereas the construction of ROBs at Suchi Pind, Jalandhar (Layalpur Khalsa College), Jalandhar City (Maqsuddana), three at Bathinda would be taken in second phase in August 2006.

The process for the construction of the third phase of the remaining ROBs at Mansa, Chawapail, Tarn Taran, Subanpur, Amritsar (Jawala Flour Mill), Jagraon, Mansa-RUB, Maur-RUB, Abohar and Moga would be started in May 2006.

A below normal monsoon this year: IMD

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) It will be a below normal monsoon in the country this year, the Indian Meteorological Department today said in its long range forecast for rainfall during the South West Monsoon which said India would receive about 93 per cent of the average rainfall. The situation, however, was not as alarming as in the year 2002 when the country received just 81 per cent of the normal level, thus causing a drought.....

Prabha Rau downplays Nirupam's comments on dance bar ban

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Prabha Rau today chose to downplay the comments of her party spokesman Sanjay Nirupam welcoming the decision of the High Court of striking down the dance bar ban.
