250 Feyenoord fans arrested after Ajax defeat

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, Apr 23 (Reuters) Rotterdam police arrested around 250 Feyenoord fans during and after their side's Dutch league playoff defeat by Ajax Amsterdam today.

''All arrests were made for violence, vandalism and disregarding regulations and police orders,'' police spokesman Ger de Jong told Reuters.

''Feyenoord fans left the stadium and caused problems outside. We made clear that we won't tolerate this behaviour in Rotterdam.'' Feyenoord were beaten 4-2 in the second leg of the playoff and 7-2 on aggregate as Ajax progressed to the final.

Last season Feyenoord hooligans wounded several police officers after the home match against Ajax, leading to 43 direct arrests and more than 100 later on.

In February a group of 70 Ajax fans attacked an ADO Den Haag fan base two days before a first division match between the two teams and stabbed two ADO fans.
