Kumaraswamy to appeal against suspension

Bangalore, Apr 15 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said that he will appeal to the party high command to revoke suspension of 40 Janata Dal (Secular) Legislators, including himself.

Talking to newspersons here, before attending the meeting convened by JD-S supremo H D Deve Gowda here, he said all the party MLAs had decided to appeal for the with drawal of suspension since he joined hands with the BJP with a good intention to protect the interests of the party. ''I am confident that party High Command will with draw suspension since though we were suspended we were working for the interests of the party.'' Mr Kumaraswamy and 39 other party MLAs were suspended for for forging alliance with BJP and dethroning the previous Congress-JD(S) coalition Government.

When his attention was drawn to the outbursts of former Prime Minister and JD-S National President H D Deve Gowda while suspending the legislators, Mr Kumaraswamy said ''he (Mr Gowda) was angry on us as we joined hands with BJP, but now he has realised that we have not committed any mistake and I am confident the suspension will be revoked.'' Meanwhile, JD(S) State President M P Prakash said there was no need to attach much significance to the suspended Legislators attending the meeting as it was convened to discuss the party's stand on delimitation of Assembly constituencies ahead of the Election Commission meeting on the subject on May 11. ''Though they were suspended they are technically in the party and there is nothing wrong in inviting them for the meeting convened to discuss party matters'', he added.

After the meeting, Mr Kumaraswamy said the discussion concentrated on strengthening the party and working for success in the forthcoming local body elections.

According to party sources all the party legislators, except senior leader P G R Sindhia, attended the meeting.
