Good Friday observed in AP

Hyderabad, Apr 14 (UNI) People here observed Good Friday, marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, with traditional fervour.

Early morning mass was held at all churches. Christians took part in prayers and observed the day with fasting and mourning.

Bishop Joji of St Maris Church conducted the prayers which would continue till night in the city.

The adoration of Crucifix was also held.

Patnaik fails to protect turtles: Greenpeace

New Delhi, Apr 14 (UNI) Greenpeace activists today confronted Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik with evidence of his government's ineptitude and inability to protect the endangered Olive Ridley turtles that arrive each year to nest on the beaches of the costal state. The activists laid out carcasses of three turtles, along with skulls and bones of several others, at the doorstep of the Chief Minister's residence here, displaying a banner stating ''Orissa Turtles: Killed on.....

24 new CRPF battalions to be raised: DG

Jalandhar, Apr 14 (UNI) As many as 24 new battalions will be raised in the Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) by the end of next year, Mr Jyoti Kumar Sinha, Director General, CRPF, said here today. Talking to reporters Mr Sinha said among these, some are proposed to be women's battalions but a decision on actual number is yet to be taken. He said presently, 51 of the total 176 battalions are deployed in Jammu and Kashmir.....

Prasar Bharti revenue up 48 per cent

Shimla, Apr 14 (UNI) The Prasar Bharti's revenue has recorded a jump 48.89 per cent during 2005-06 as compared to last year with a total revenue of Rs 1,238 crore, an official spokesman said today. Last year the national broadcaster's revenue was Rs 831.47 crore, which was an increase of 48.89 per cent. The spokesman said Shimla AIR and DD had also registered over 50 per cent growth during the same period with a combined revenue.....
