Gangtok, Apr 14 (UNI) A four-day youth adventure exchange camp got underway at Rumtek, about 24 km from here today, with the participants imparted training on adventure activities.
At least thirty participants from Sikkim and West Bengal participated in the camp organised by Yak and Yeti Travels, Sikkim.
Youth Adventure Exchange Camp(YAEC) Director Satish Bardewa told newsmen that the objective of the camp was to promote nature conservation, culture and adventure through international friendship.
Mr Bardewa said lessons on outdoor activities like rock climbing, river rafting, mountain biking, first aid, environment conservation and rescue operation would be taught to the participants at Bulbuley near the capital town by expereinced and resourcesful persons.
He said the programme, to be held every year, was aimed at orienting the youth to establish a relation with the nature, conserve it, enhance the willpower, create a sense of team work and scope for self employment in the field of eco-tourism and adventure activities and to develop international friendship.
Mr Bardewa said on the last day of the camp 22 students and two teachers from the St John's College, Melbourne, Australia would arrive at the camp site to interact with the participants.
