Zeros don't make a Third Front:Congress

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The Congress today rubbished fresh efforts to form a Third Front at the Centre saying ''zeros don't make a political front''.

''Where is the Third Front? You can't form a political front without political parties,'' Union Tourism and Culture Minister and senior Congress leader Ambika Soni told reporters here.

Those who are talking about a Third Front can't even include the Left parties in it, she said responding to yesteday's announcement by Samajwadi Party president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu that they would resurrect the Third Front with the help of the AIADMK, Asom Gana Parishad and National Conference.

Ms Soni said more important than a forming a front was ensuring it was indeed an alternative. ''You have to provide a political alternative,'' she said at the Travancore House where she inaugurated a Kerala food festival.

Accusing the opposition of lacking a political agenda, she said it had no perspective or direction. ''They take the political agenda of the day from the television channels.'' UNI FZ VD ND1302

DPA alliance to be finalised soon: Narayanasamy

Pondicherry, Apr 7 (UNI) An alliance among the constituents of the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) would be finalised in a couple of days, according to AICC General Secretary V Narayanasamy. Dozens of pro-democracy people arrested in Nepal

Kathmandu, Apr 7 (UNI) Security personnel have detained dozens of pro-democracy activists from various parts of Kathmandu on second day of the four-day general strike called for restoration of democracy in Nepal.
