Vriddhachalam, Apr 7: Actor-politician Vijayakanth today promised 15 kg free rice a month to the poor, supply of ration to card holders at their doorstep and 1.8 crore employment opportunities if the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) was voted to power in the May eight Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
Releasing his party's election manifesto in front of 'Viruthagiri Easwaran Temple' at Vriddhachalam, from where he is seeking election, Mr Vijayakanth said the DMDK, if voted to power, would distribute 15 kg of rice free of cost to poor families every month.
The actor-politician promised to supply quality ration products at the doorsteps of card holders and make available 1.80 crore jobs for the educated unemployed in five years.
To develop villages in the state as models, his party, if elected, would allocate Rs 25 lakh to each village in a phased manner and cover all villages in five years of its rule, he said.
Mr Vijayakanth also promised free distribution of hybrid seeds to farmers and introduction of bio-technology in farming by setting up research facilities to raise the standard of living of farmers. This would help multiply farm production and generate employment opportunities, besides give better remuneration to the farming community. He wanted to make farmers stand on their own feet and lead a life of prosperity, Mr Vijayakanth said.
To help poor families improve quality of life, his party would open a post office savings bank account against each family and deposit a sum of Rs 500 every month to create a family welfare fund.
To take care of pregnant women and children, he promised a monthly assistance of Rs 500 for three years right from time of conception till three years after birth of a child. This would be restricted to two children in a poor family.
To eradicate female infanticide, his party, if it came to power, would make a fixed deposit of Rs 10,000 in the names of female children born in poor families.
For education, the party would bear the interest of a portion of loans availed by students, who opted for technical and higher education. The party would also streamline self-financing professional colleges, he added.
