Talcher, Orissa, Apr 7 (UNI) BJP president Rajnath Singh today accused the UPA government of not showing sincerity in resolving the Ayodhya issue.
Addressing newspersons on his second day of his ''Bharat Suraksha Yatra'', Mr Singh said the Ayodhya cell, set up during the NDA government, was dismantled by the UPA government when it assumed power indicating its lack of inclination for a peaceful solution to the issue.
He appealed to the Muslims to extend their support and cooperation for resolving the Ayodhya issue, stating it was aimed at social harmony between the communities. The Muslims must understand this and help to build the temple.
To a question, Mr Singh said the BJP was not opposed to objection on reservation extending to the Dalit and oppressed Muslims in the education institutions, but was opposed to the reservation on the line of religion. The NDA government, he asserted, had never favoured reservation on the basis of caste or community.
On the Indo-US Nuclear deal, the BJP president demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should make all details public. He accused the Dr Singh of not taking parliament into confidence on the deal.
The UPA government, he said, had miserably failed in tackling the Naxalite menace, which had now spread to 220 districts across the country.
The Centre, he said, had not come to the rescue of the state governments facing the Maoist menace. He said despite the Orissa government's repeated pleas, the Centre had not responded to the way it should.
The UPA government's soft attitude towards Maoists, trying to establish the red corridor from Nepal to Hyderabad, was seemingly at the behest of the Left parties who support the government, he said.
Mr Singh was critical of the UPA government decision to import wheat, stating it would ultimately affect India's farm sector as well as the farming community.
