Tension in Sikar as rumours of flare-up spread

Sikar, Apr 7 (UNI) Two days after the daylight murder of a Jat leader, tension gripped this small district town as rumours of a flare, up did the rounds today.

Shopkeepr's downed their shutters and people huddled indoors as the news of a fight between rival groups broke out.

The town is already in grip of fear after Jat Mahasabha district President Gopal Phogawat was gunned down by unidentified assailants on Wednesday. The murder is supposed to be a fallout of rivalry between two groups of liquor contractors.

District Collector Ashwini Bhagat and Superintendent of Police (SP) L N Meena visited different parts of the town and monitored the law and order situation.

The shops in the main market reopened three hours later after the district administration assured them of full security. Extra police force has been deployed in the town as a condolence meeting for Phogawat is scheduled today.

Meanwhile State Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria today announced in the Vidhan Sabha that a new SP would be appointed in Sikar as the crime rate in the district has increased over the past few days as compared to other districts of the state.

SR on speed track, earns more

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 7 (UNI) The Southern Railway has earned Rs 2,675 crore compared to previous year's earning of Rs 2,365 crore, marking an increase of 13 per cent. A Railway release said the overall freight loading had increased from 23.5 million tonne to 27.4 million tonne, an increase of alomost 3.9 million tonnes over the previous year. Correspondingly, the freight earnings of Southern Railway had shown substantial increase from Rs 835 crore to Rs 1,041.....

Decks for Metro rail projects cleared: Union Minister

Hyderabad, Apr 7 (UNI) The decks for the Metro rail projects across the country, dogged by the gauge controversy between the Ministries of Railways and the Union Urban Development, have been cleared with the Centre deciding to leave the decision on Gauge to the States concerned, Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy said today. ''The Metro rail projects in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai can right away start with the Union Cabinet on April five.....
