Shiv Kapur qualifies for his maiden British Open appearance

Singapore, Apr 7 (UNI) Shiv Kapur booked a berth for his maiden trip at this year's British Open as the Indian emerged third after a four-hole playoff against Lee Sung of South Korea in the 36-hole final Asian qualifiers here today.

With three slots up for grabs at the season's third major, overnight leader Jarrod Lyle of Australia fired a one-under-par 71 to post a two-round six under 138 and finished at the top slot ahead of compatriot Uhno Park at the Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong Course.

The 2005 Asian Tour Rookie of the Year, Kapur had to go through a sudden-death playoff with Lee to decide the third finisher and join the Australian pair at the Open, to be held at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England from July 20-23.

After matching pars over the first three extra holes, Lee cracked under pressure, hooking his drive into water at the par-five 18th, leaving Kapur the simple task of registering a par to secure a berth in the golf's oldest major.
