Sensex opens 100 pts up, touches new high of 11,930

Mumbai, Apr 7: The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today opened up by 100 points at 11,845.13 and later touched a new all-time high of 11,930.66 points with a gain of 185 points.

Sensex traded 107 points up at 11,854 at 1130 hrs.

Sensex had closed at 11,746.90 points on Wednesday.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index also opened 15 points up at 3,525 points this morning against the last close of 3,510 points.

Nifty touched a new high of 3,555.50 points and traded at 3,538 with a gain of 28 points.

In sectoral indices, metal and capital goods indices of BSE were doing remarkably well with more than three and two per cent gains, respectively.

Consumer Durables and Banks were under pressure as their indices were in the red.

The BSE smallcap index was up by 1.44 per cent and BSE midcap index was up by 0.95 per cent showing widespread gains.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Tata Power, ACC, Hindalco, Larsen&Toubro, Infosys Technologies, Grasim Industries, Tata Steel, Gujarat Ambuja Cements, BHEL and Reliance Energy.

Among the losers were Satyam HDFC, Ranbaxy, ICICI Bank, HDFC, Cipla and Maruti.

TTD to implement Master Plan

Tirupati, Apr 7: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) had decided to implement a 'Master Plan' at Tirumala to offer more amenities to pilgrims.A TTD release said here today that alternative accommodation or adequate compensation, would be provided to displaced persons. Exports cross magic figure of $100 bn: Kamal Nath

New Delhi, Apr 7: Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath today unveiled a series of important trade initiatives to put Indian exports on a trajectory of quantum growth and announced that India's merchandise exports had crossed the magic figure of 100 billion dollars in 2005-06.''In fact, they have touched 101 billion dollars, with an annual growth rate of 25 per cent,'' the Minister said while releasing the Annual Supplement to the Foreign Trade Policy (2004-09) at a press conference here......

Govt to strictly ban cow slaughter

Bhopal, Apr 7: The Madhya Pradesh government will strictly implement the law putting a total ban on the slaughter of bovines, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.Welcoming the Supreme Court judgement, upholding the Madhya Pradesh Gau Vansh Pratishedh Adhiniyam, 2004, as 'historic', Mr Chouhan said the government would effectively implement the provisions of the Act respecting the popular feelings. Talking to a delegation of prominent citizens from Burhanpur led by BJP MLA Archana Chitnis here yesterday, Mr Chouhan.....
