SBI strike paralyses Nagaland govt transactions

Kohima, Apr 7 (UNI) Most transactions of Nagaland government has been stalled following the ongoing strike in State Bank of India (SBI), which entered its fifth today.

According to official sources here today, the state government could not withdraw money for various developmental activities.

Salaries of its employees also could not be withdrawn.

Talking to UNI, SBI Officers Union's assistant general secretary (north east) Devid Kire expressed unhappiness for the hardship faced by the state govermment employees.

To cnvinience of the state government, SBI branches in the state were kept open on April one and two, he said, blaming the Union government for not heeding to their grievances.

Advani hopes quakes in Gujrat were ''passing tremors''

China puts out 10-day-old forest blaze

Beijing, Apr 7: Thousands of Chinese firefighters helped by artificial rain have put out a forest blaze which raged across more than 1,000 hectares in the mountainous southwest, state media said today.Three villagers were injured and about 800 local residents were forced to evacuate after the fire broke out last Wednesday just a few km from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province.''All flames were out by 11 this morning,'' state television said today, adding more than 6,000 firefighters.....

Restart of nuclear talks up to US: N Korea envoy

Tokyo, Apr 7: North Korea's top negotiator in six-way talks on Pyongyang's nuclear arms programme said today it is up to the United States to take steps to restart the stalled talks on the thorny topic.North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-gwan arrived in Tokyo, where he will be joined next week by envoys from the other countries involved in the six-way talks, aimed at preventing a nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula.Asked on arrival what he hopes.....
